Pradosh Vrat (July 6 Thursday)
Guruvaar (Thursday) is governed by the divine energy of the Guru (teacher). Lord Shiva was known as the Adiguru/ Jagatguru (the first and the most supreme guru). Pradosha is a day auspicious to lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati. When it falls on a Thursday it is called as Guruvaar Pradosha. This day is good to seek the blessings of Pithru’s (ancestors) to ward of danger and destruction of enemies. Lord Shiva the supreme guru always blesses guides, protects and finally ensures salvation for the souls who worship him. During Pradosh lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are extremely pleased and shower blessings on the devotees who follow Pradosh. It is believed that during this time all gods, demi gods, saints and angels watch lord Shiva perform the resplendent Thandav between the horns of Nandi while Parvati watches delighted and enchanted.
On this day (Trayodashi) people rise early, bathe, observe complete or partial fasting, listen to mantras, wear Rudraksha and remember lord Shiva. Pradosha Kaalam in every Shiva temple often sees devotees watching the lingabhishek, listening to or chanting Shri Rudram, Rudrashtakam, lingashtakam and other prayers in between 3:30 p.m to 6: 30 p.m . The Shivaling is worshipped with water, raw milk, ghee, honey ,curd and sandalwood paste. Fruits, vibhuti and sacred water are given to devotees.
A guru enters your life to guide you to your soul purpose, to ensure success, heal karma and finally provide salvation. For those who consider lord Shiva as their Guru, Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha are assured as per texts. Their journey is shielded by their guru as enemies both internal and external are vanquished by lord Shiva the supreme guru. Rudraksha are the sacred tears of the supreme guru lord Shiva. In reality they are natural, multifaceted seeds found in abundance. Where texts assign a different deity to each of the Rudraksha, science assigns electro-magnetic, paramagnetic properties to them. It is stated in the shastraas that whatever the Rudraksha touches; that object or person is purified, absolved from sin and blessed. Wearing a Rudraksha on Pradosh is very advisable and auspicious for any devotee.
